Sebastian Raschka, PhD, has been working in machine learning and AI for more than a decade, with a career spanning academic research, education, and industry. He is currently a staff research engineer at Lightning AI, focusing on implementing and training large language models.

Before his industry role, Sebastian was an assistant professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he focused on deep learning research. That research foundation shapes his teaching and writing: he is known for his bestselling books on machine learning with Python and for Build a Large Language Model (From Scratch), which walks readers step by step through how LLMs work under the hood.
