Marcello La Rocca

Marcello La Rocca is a senior software engineer whose career has been built on making advanced algorithms practical for real production systems. He has contributed to large-scale web applications at companies like Twitter, Microsoft, and Apple, and has worked on data infrastructure and applied research in both academia and industry. He currently works as a senior software engineer at Tundra.com.

His expertise covers graphs, optimization algorithms, genetic algorithms, machine learning, and quantum computing, with a particular talent for choosing and tuning data structures under real-world constraints of memory, latency, and scale. He is the author of Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures, published by Manning, a hands-on guide to advanced data structures and graph algorithms, and he authored the Neatsort adaptive sorting algorithm. On the DataTalks.Club podcast he has shared practical guidance on Bloom filters, approximate nearest-neighbor search, and performance profiling for engineers.

Marcello writes about algorithms and software engineering for the developer community, and his open source work and articles help practitioners apply sophisticated techniques to search, recommendation, and large-scale systems.
