Jens Albrecht is a full-time professor in the Computer Science Department at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology. His research and teaching focus on data management and analytics, with a particular focus on text: how organizations can store, search, and analyze the unstructured language that makes up so much of their data. He is the author of several articles on big data management and analysis.

Jens holds a doctorate in computer science, and his path to academia ran through industry. Before he rejoined academia in 2012, he worked for over a decade as a consultant and data architect, designing data systems for real organizations with real constraints. That industry career shapes his professorship: he teaches and researches data engineering and text analytics with an engineer’s attention to what actually works in practice.

The combination makes Jens a bridge between academic research and applied data work, equally at home with database internals, big data architectures, and the machine learning methods that extract meaning from text at scale.
