Filipa Castro has worked as a data scientist for the last three years, building a career that moves between two very different physical worlds. She started out developing autonomous solutions for the subsea environment before moving to the surface to work for the automotive industry. That path has given her experience applying data science to autonomous systems and to industrial products, rather than purely digital projects.

Outside of work, Filipa belongs to the Lead Team of Data Science for Social Good Portugal (DSSG PT), an open community of data scientists, data lovers, and data enthusiasts who want to tackle problems that really matter. Together they help non-profit, non-governmental, and governmental organizations harness the power of their data to improve their impact on the community. Her work with DSSG PT reflects a simple conviction: data skills are most valuable when they are put to work on problems that affect real people.
