Erum Afzal is an enthusiastic speaker, mentor, and lead ML engineer with a deep passion for data science and machine learning education. She holds an MS in Information Technology from NUST in Islamabad, Pakistan, and is currently a researcher at Justus Liebig University in Germany, where she is pursuing a PhD on AI solutions for teacher training.
At the heart of Erum’s work is community-driven AI education. She leads Omdena Academy, where she has helped turn Omdena’s global, real-world AI projects into structured courses covering Python, Pandas, NumPy, and NLP, along with the instructor pipeline that delivers them. She also serves as a Teaching Expert at Women in AI Academy in Germany, instructing courses on data science and machine learning, and has received accolades as part of the AI Wonder Girls team. Previously, she taught a deep learning course at Eskewlab Philippines in collaboration with Omdena and led the Women Who Code Data Science track, organizing bootcamps and workshops for aspiring data scientists.
Erum’s teaching experience extends internationally. She served as a trainer at AIDA Lab at Prince Sultan University in Saudi Arabia, where she was a master trainer of AI courses and conducted research, and she remains associated with several international bodies in the data science and machine learning community.
