Ertugrul Mutlu

Ertugrul Mutlu is a Computer Engineering student at RWTH Aachen University and a Werkstudent researcher in the Enterprise Information Systems group at Fraunhofer IAIS, one of Germany’s leading applied research organizations. Working at the boundary of research and industry has shaped how he approaches AI: not as a demo, but as a system that has to be reliable, practical, and buildable with the resources real teams have.

His technical interests cover reliable AI systems, agentic workflows, applied LLM engineering, and signal-processing-based feature extraction. The thread connecting them is a focus on lightweight AI systems that bridge classical methods with modern LLM-driven agent architectures, using decades-old techniques like wavelets alongside cutting-edge agents when they are the right tool for the job.

Ertugrul recently published a preprint on wavelet-based feature engineering and clustering, writes technical articles on dev.to about ML systems and agentic AI, and contributes to the open-source and data/ML community through prototypes, research notes, and talks. For a student researcher, he has built an unusually public record of his work.
