Dr. Phil Winder is a multidisciplinary software engineer and data scientist, and the CEO of Winder Research, a cloud-native data science consultancy based in the UK. Through a combination of consulting and development, he helps startups and enterprises use data science to grow and scale their businesses, improving both their products and the platforms behind them.

Phil is also a dedicated educator. Over recent years he has taught thousands of engineers through his data science training courses at conferences, in public and private engagements, and on the O’Reilly online learning platform, formerly Safari. His courses focus on the practicalities of using data science in industry, covering everything from cleaning data through to deep reinforcement learning.

That practical bent runs through his writing and speaking as well. Phil is the author of Reinforcement Learning, a book about using RL in real industrial settings, and he has spoken on industrial applications of reinforcement learning, showing where agents and learned policies beat hand-coded strategies.
