Niall Richard Murphy is an award-winning author, speaker, technologist, and executive leader who has spent more than twenty years in mission-critical engineering roles across software, large-scale service operations, teaching, and diversity in computing. His work has shaped how an entire generation of engineers thinks about running reliable systems at scale.

He is best known as the instigator, editor, and co-author of the best-selling and industry-defining Site Reliability Engineering book, published with O’Reilly, the volume that introduced SRE practices to the wider industry, as well as its successor, The Site Reliability Workbook. He extended that work into machine learning as a co-author of Reliable Machine Learning, an O’Reilly book that applies production reliability principles, monitoring, governance, and MLRE practices, to ML systems.
