Leandro von Werra is a machine learning engineer on the open source team at Hugging Face, where he works on tools used across the modern NLP and LLM ecosystem. He has several years of industry experience bringing NLP projects to production, working across the whole machine learning stack from data and modeling to deployment.

Leandro is the creator of TRL, a popular Python library that combines transformers with reinforcement learning and is widely used for training transformer models. He is also a co-author, alongside Lewis Tunstall and Thomas Wolf, of Natural Language Processing with Transformers, the hands-on O’Reilly book that teaches practitioners to build real-world applications with transformer models.
