Lalit Pagaria is the creator of Obsei, an AI powered automation tool, and a community maintainer of Haystack, a widely used open source framework for building search systems. Through this work he helps teams turn the latest advances in NLP and search into practical, production-ready tooling, and he remains an active voice in the open source machine learning community.

On the professional side, Lalit has designed low latency, highly scalable backend systems at Careem (an Uber company) and Ola, two of the most demanding ride-hailing environments in the world. Building services that stay fast and reliable at that scale shaped his engineering judgment on architecture, performance, and tradeoffs.

Earlier in his career, Lalit worked close to the metal, playing with embedded systems and the Linux kernel at Brocade Communications and Gridbots. That range, from kernels to search frameworks, is what sets him apart as an engineer. Away from the keyboard, he loves playing chess, a hobby that pairs well with his strategic approach to building systems.
