Jack Blandin began his career as a Software Engineer in 2015 before transitioning into Data Science and Machine Learning in 2017. Since then he has held a variety of machine learning individual contributor and leadership roles at Fi, Wayfair, Trunk Club, and GoHealth, managing teams ranging from 2 to 15 people and culminating in his role as VP of Data Science & Machine Learning at Fi.
Along the way Jack has learned, and now teaches, the unwritten rules of success in machine learning: how to get stakeholder buy-in for ML initiatives, how to scope and run rapid proofs of concept that prove business value, and which full-stack skills help data scientists and ML engineers accelerate into leadership. He shared these lessons on the DataTalksClub podcast.
Beyond his industry work, Jack has pursued a PhD in Computer Science, with research focusing on machine learning, reinforcement learning, and algorithmic fairness. He has also set out on an entrepreneurial path, building a hiring marketplace for data and machine learning professionals designed around a simple idea: candidates should be able to showcase their actual ability rather than rely on a resume.
