Eleni Tzirita Zacharatou

Eleni Tzirita Zacharatou is a postdoctoral researcher at the DIMA Group at TU Berlin, where she conducts research on spatial big data analytics, from GPS traces and trajectories to satellite imagery, and robust stream processing in IoT environments. Her systems-driven work includes contributions to the Nebula Stream and Agora infrastructure projects, and her research results have appeared in premier data management venues such as VLDB, CIDR, and ICDE. Her work received the 2018 ACM SIGMOD best demonstration award.

Beyond her own research, Eleni is deeply involved in the academic craft of a postdoc: mentoring BSc, MSc, and PhD students, teaching, reviewing for top conferences, and disseminating results to both academic and industry audiences. She cares about research priorities beyond raw performance, including usability, energy efficiency, and real-world adoption, and she is an advocate for increasing diversity in computer science.

Eleni holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from EPFL and a Diploma (M.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. She regularly shares practical advice on preparing for a PhD, managing research time, and publishing in top data management venues.
