David Bader

David A. Bader is Director of the Institute for Data Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a Distinguished Professor, and a founder of the Department of Data Science in NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing. Before joining NJIT, he served as founding Professor and Chair of the School of Computational Science and Engineering in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he helped establish one of the first programs of its kind.

His research targets global grand challenges at the intersection of data science, big data, and high-performance computing, with applications in cybersecurity, massive-scale analytics, and computational genomics. He leads efforts to democratize supercomputing, including Arkouda and ARACHNE, interactive Python-based tools for massive-scale graph analytics, and the influential STINGER streaming graph system. Through partnerships with organizations such as the NSF, Accenture, NVIDIA, and NASA, he focuses on building usable systems that researchers and practitioners actually adopt.

A Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, AAAS, and SIAM, Dr. Bader has received the IEEE Sidney Fernbach Award and co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles. He advises the White House on national computing strategy, most recently on the National Strategic Computing Initiative and the Future Advanced Computing Ecosystem, and he speaks and mentors widely on data science education, graph analytics, and research leadership.
