Boyan Angelov is a data strategist with a decade of experience in academic and commercial environments ranging from bioinformatics and clinical trials to HRTech, LegalTech, and management consulting. He studied biochemistry with a focus on cell biology before a computational master’s thesis pulled him toward code and statistics, and he went on to spend the first half of his career as a data scientist at startups, an experience he credits with teaching him both how to build data products and how not to.
Consulting came next, and with it the title of data strategist. After delivering a data strategy for a data-focused company, he was invited to become its CTO, an experience that meant first writing the strategy and then living with the consequences of implementing it. Today he leads the data strategy function at Exxeta AG, a large technology and digital transformation consultancy serving the German-speaking market, where he helps clients make data strategy actionable: due diligence, use case ideation, feasibility and prioritization, target architecture, and delivery practices grounded in DataOps.
Boyan is the author of Elements of Data Strategy and Python and R for the Modern Data Scientist. He is also a researcher on explainable AI (XAI) and progress studies, and a regular speaker at conferences, meetups, and podcasts.
