Andreas Syrén is a Principal Applied Scientist at Zalando, one of Europe’s leading e-commerce platforms. His path into applied science started in Mechatronics Engineering, where he discovered a genuine love for mathematics, and led him to a master’s in Engineering Mathematics and Computational Science at Chalmers University of Technology before he headed into industry.

At Zalando, Andreas works on the applied end of data science: taking scientific methodology and turning it into outcomes that matter for the business and its customers. He is a strong believer that impact requires much more than theory alone. In his view, successfully applying science in the real world demands an engineering mindset as well as attention to people, product, and commercial realities, a philosophy that shapes how he approaches his work as a principal-level contributor.

Outside of work, Andreas enjoys table top role playing games with friends, some kind of boardsport whenever possible, and reading up on non-applied areas of mathematics, keeping his curiosity for pure ideas alive alongside his applied career.
